The nursery.

Garinto is first of all a place: a nursery on the route de Bouskoura, where our plants grow before they come to you. And a team of gardeners who know what grows here, and what doesn’t.

A nursery gardener pushes a wheelbarrow between rows of potted plants, under a shade net.

Who we are.

The courtyard of a riad in Marrakech: a bitter orange tree heavy with fruit, a zellige fountain, jars of jasmine.
What we love to grow everywhere: the courtyard of a riad in Marrakech.

We started from something simple we kept seeing. In Morocco, people often buy plants that grew up in greenhouses in Europe or Asia, came in by lorry and were sold without advice. Many don’t make it through their first summer. The chergui, the salt air on the coast, a south-facing balcony in Marrakech: nothing had prepared them for it.

Garinto is the opposite. Plants chosen for our climate, raised and acclimatised here with us, delivered in their pots, with someone on the other end of the phone who knows them. And when there’s a tree to plant, a balcony to dress or a vegetable garden to build, the same team comes out.

The place

The nursery is on the route de Bouskoura, south of Casablanca. There you’ll find the growing greenhouses, the shade houses where plants get used to the sun, the potting workshop, and the tables where we prepare your orders every morning.

You’re welcome to visit: see the plants before you choose, ask your questions, bring in a sick plant.

How our plants
grow.

A plant that arrives at your door has spent several weeks with us. That time is what makes the difference.

  1. Choosing

We choose species that like the Moroccan climate, from Moroccan growers wherever they exist: olive trees, citrus, pomegranates, herbs, dwarf fan palms.

  2. Repotting

When they arrive, plants are repotted in our own compost mixes, suited to each family: free-draining for an olive tree, richer for a monstera.

  3. Acclimatising

Several weeks under shade netting, then out in the sun for those that will live outdoors. They get used to our light, our heat and normal watering, not the kind they get in a greenhouse.

  4. The check before leaving

On the morning of delivery, a gardener checks the leaves, the roots, and that there are no pests. If the plant isn’t ready, it stays, and we let you know.

One team.

Our gardeners are employed by Garinto and trained at the nursery. No subcontractors, no middlemen: the person advising you on WhatsApp works a few metres from the one preparing your order.
